Saint Joseph’s Altar is an honored annual tradition, set up in homes, churches and even public establishments, as an offering of thanksgiving for answered prayers. It symbolizes love, sacrifice and miracles in a time of great need. In March each year, the Sons of Italy Heritage Club of Shreveport-Bossier feature a beautiful altar in honor of this sacred tradition. This year’s altar, again prepared by Past President Johnnie Estess and wife Sue, was spectacular. Appropriately, the Estess’ are the 2022 honorees of the Bishop Charles P. Greco Humanitarian Award.

If you wear a shamrock in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, you are actually wearing a symbol of the Godhead 3 in 1, according to St. Patrick. He used the shamrock to explain that although God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit were different, they were a part of the same stalk, making them one. For this reason, the Irish revere the clover and use it as a symbol of Ireland and all things Irish.

Founded in 1982

The Sons of Italy Heritage Club was founded in 1982 by a group of citizens of Italian heritage, whose grandparents were members of the Italia Moderna Society, a benevolent society of Italian (mostly Sicilian) immigrants that dates back to 1906.
